UoN RDA reach their minimum goal on Jumpstart!

On our way back from Scropton yard, we learn terrific news! The University of Nottingham RDA group have reached their minimum target amount on Jumpstart, the university’s first crowdfunding platform. This means that they will be granted all the money they have raised at the end of the campaign, and this is exciting! As a Jumpstart Co-ordinator, I feel particularly proud of them, because their project is actually our first-ever one! I would like to thank everyone who donated or spread the word. Let’s give the team a final push to their main target, 1,000 British pounds, of which they have secured 30%. Let’s get as many cute volunteers as possible to RDA…

An Engage session at Trent Valley

To my excitement, I received an e-mail earlier this week from the Uni’s equestrian society that I had been secured a place in the Engage session, which is organized now and then at Trent Valley Equestrian Centre. Our society is HUGE this year and, after struggling to secure a place in one of the lessons, I could not believe my luck! The much expected day arrived and, yes, the weather was perfect for riding! The sun was shining, there was zero wind and I couldn’t stop looking at the English nature through the minibus window. My father says that Crete is the best place in the world, the most beautiful…

Inspiring people in inspired places: A trip to Scorpton RDA centre

Hello again! I would like to write about the exciting trip I had with the RDA group of the university’s equestrian society last Wednesday, 7 October! We went to Scorpton for an equine therapy session, organized by out equestrian society in partnership with our disabled students’ officer. My first-ever equine therapy session! The day hadn’t started very well. After many brave attempts to get up from bed (as I had exhausted myself up trying to fix my politics blog the night before) and the realisation that it was raining, I made it to the library and afterwards to our meeting point, outside Portland building. Our companion consisted both of disabled…

Urgent funding plea: Let’s help one of the University of Nottingham riding clubs

The equestrian club of the Sutton Bonington campus of the University of Nottingham has been involved in the Mars (the brand, not the planet!) Milk Play Fund, in order to fund its horseball activities and represent the university in British national university championships. The club is in urgent need of equipment and money to fund their lessons and horse training and have entered the scheme for a small grant. One thousand pounds might not sound enough for the size of their project, but “every little helps”, as the motto of a British supermarket chain says. Sutton Bonington is an isolated campus hosting a number of agronomic, veterinarian and food science…

    Walking across a beautiful campus

Spring is here and The University of Nottingham community know exactly what that means; lively colors everywhere! The massive variety of flora on the University Park Campus has woken up to welcome the warmer days! Colourful flowers, all-green trees, everything looks different under the spring British sun (yes, I love this seldom sunshine)! Clear paths leading to fountains and pieces of art, trees devoted to important people, students’ halls and research centres showing themselves through all these leaves! On the main campus there is a plethora of gardens. In them stand benches and tables, where students discuss, eat or study. With wi-fi everywhere, excellent lending services and thousands of digitized…

    Lesson gaffes!

Yesterday, after my exam and lesson, I found myself helping out with the new beginners’ class. These are students from the University of Nottingham who did not register with the club in September, hence they are newbies. So, I was holding Smartie, with whom I was walking and running at Laura’s instructions for one hour, as Smartie was being riden by a nervous student. I soon observed that Smartie was too energetic as well. As it was a beginners’ lesson, halting and walking were included in the instructions. On one of our halts, Smartie kept trotting. What the heck?! I asked Laura for help. “Well”, she said, “he keeps going because…
