The Medieval Saddle!
Hello! I have been looking for inspiration for this blog. I wanted to offer you something unique and intriguing, but for a long time I couldn’t come up with something…. Until I stumbled upon this interesting YouTube channel, called Modern History TV, which explains how things were done in the Medieval times, especially from a knight’s perspective. By the way, it is a very informative channel, so I highly recommend that you subscribe. Highly informative sources like this make the World Wide Web a better place and their contributors should be encouraged. I was fascinated by the videos on the Medieval saddle. Jason Kingsley OBE, the channel’s owner, describes quite…

The horse dancer: a film for the whole family
Hi! I hope you have had a great summer! I don’t know about your place, but here in Crete it’s hot, very hot! And when it’s so hot outside, one wants to relax and find ways to entairntain oneself. So, I searched for something entertaining, enlightening and age appropriate. And there you go, I found “The Horse Dancer”, which I enjoyed very much. Samantha Wick, a promising teen gymnast, is informed that she hasn’t made it to the American Olympic gymnastics team. Her grandmother, a former champion in gymnastics herself, pays for her grand daughter to join a summer camp in Black Water Horse Camp. Due to her highly competitive…

A Video of the Tennessee Walking Horse
Remember the post about the Tennessee Walking Horse? As we do with every breed, now it’s time to watch the Tennessee Walking Horse in action. Amongst the thousands of videos that exist out there, I chose for you an informative video produced by the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association. The video is in fact a compilation of clips which feature historical representatives of the breed. It shows us beautiful short films from past generations, when breeding and training a horse was a small farmer’s business and had little relevance to today’s profit-hunting and the extended exploitation and abuse. * Watch carefully how natural and relaxed horses and riders…

Beautiful music for dressage-to-music tests based on Harry Potter
The show season has begun and the web is full of resources, ideas and… dressage music! And so, I found on YouTube two lovely videos with dressage music from the Harry Potter theme. Apart from the beautiful music, these videos also provide suggestions for your test. The authors claim that they have 15 years of experience in British dressage and all their dressage music is recorded in a professional studio. Below are the videos. What do you think of the programmes they suggest? If Harry Potter inspires you, why not buying “The Compete Harry Potter Film Music Collection”, played by The Prague Philarmonic Orchestra?

Touching videos on Valegro’s retirement
I bet the biggest news for equestrians in 2016 is Valegro’s official retirement from competition. Having won four Olympic gold medals for Britain and loads in top European and world shows with his rider, Charlotte Dujardin, the legendary gelding was decided to be withdrawn from competition at the very peak of his international dressage career. Valegro, a KWPN foaled in the Netherlands in 2002 and shipped to Britain as a three-year-old to Carl Hester’s yard, did not look very promising at the beginning, due to his small height and over-active motion, making Hester unsuccessfully pursue his sale. In the end, Valegro was proven to be a big star, as he…
