The Medieval Saddle!
Hello! I have been looking for inspiration for this blog. I wanted to offer you something unique and intriguing, but for a long time I couldn’t come up with something…. Until I stumbled upon this interesting YouTube channel, called Modern History TV, which explains how things were done in the Medieval times, especially from a knight’s perspective. By the way, it is a very informative channel, so I highly recommend that you subscribe. Highly informative sources like this make the World Wide Web a better place and their contributors should be encouraged. I was fascinated by the videos on the Medieval saddle. Jason Kingsley OBE, the channel’s owner, describes quite…

Canada’s new playball
Hi again! Canada spends long hours inside his stall and turning in circles has become a well-established habit. On the other hand, for a long time now, stable toys have been on my equestrian shopping list. So, I asked Yannis to order for Canada a play ball from his supplier. A play ball is hard to find in Greece, as I concluded; it took the supplier two months to receive it from the manufacturer. One evening last December, Yannis told me that the toy was waiting for me at the yard. It’s a red, rubber ball and with a big handle. It’s part of Tattini’s budget line, Daslo, and it would cost me 25 euros. Or, at…

Braiding and decorating the mane of a shire horse
Hi! I admire some people’s patience when it comes to heavy braiding! In some cultures there are events where heavy decoration is the norm. I watched this video of a lady braiding the mane of a shire horse for an event and, indeed, I can say that this requires high skill and yeap, big patience!

What I would gift my horse for Christmas -if I had one
Here I am, break at work (well, I blog, work and study altogether -and it feels terrible only when I have to miss equestrian socials and lessons!). My supervisor has been playing Christmassy music to cheer us up, having showed us 4 boxes of chocolate, whose contents are all supposed to end up in our stomachs (and I am the person closest to these boxes, so imagine -_- ). So, with all these cheers and treats, I began to think about the -horsey- gift I would like to give myself! A new pair of breeches and a shirt are in myself’s wishlist. This is how I began to search on the…

Horseboxes that blow minds
I read today an article by Madeleine Pitt on Horse & Hound website, with the title “5 luxurious horseboxes ideal for long haul travel” and I was excited with the pictures I saw; looking like more luxurious caravans than simple animal lorries, these boxes will steal your heart if you are an insanely horsey person! These horseboxes include kitchenettes, storage space, huge sofas, satellite systems and loads of other facilities. Oh, did I mention that they can host up to ten horses?

How to bridle your horse
With short hands and little experience, I tend to struggle a bit with bridling. My issues are my dificulty in detangling the parts of the bridle, my uncertainty about what to do with it when I have it neatly in my hand, and last but not least, the bit, which too wide for my hands to handle. Pretty much everything, that is, and the problem is that I will be tacking horses on Saturday. I watched some videos and found them quite helpful. I admit here that I tried the gum trick on my own gums a few times! It worked! (Shhh!)
