Help the Walk with Donkeys fix the weather damage!
This winter’s weather has been horrible in Ierapetra. Strong, cold winds, low temperatures and heavy rainfall have made us forget that we live just a few nautical miles far from North Africa. Last week we had a horrific storm that lasted two days. The winds were so strong, that my car was nearly blown away twice! Powercuts occurred everywhere in the province, public trash bins were turned over and scraps from roofs and fields were flying during the storm. The sea had turned white because of the wind. Our beloved Walk with Donkeys Sanctuary suffered heavy damage as well. Plastic and metal scraps were blown off their place -putting the…

Success! The Walk with Donkeys sanctuary achieve their fundraising goal!
Last week I wrote about the fundraising plea of the equine charity in Crete Walk with Donkeys. The charity have been in heavy and urgent need of water for the over 20 equines they protect. I am excited to see that they have exceeded their crowdfunding goal and that now they are expecting the tanks and fittings that they have ordered. A big thanks to everyone who has contributed, as those tanks will be a big relief! The charity are still raising money for their watering project, so there’s still the chance to support them here . If you would like to donate to the sanctuary for the rest of…

Water crisis appeal for an equine sanctuary
In some places, people take water for granted. In others, they are desperate to save it. People do whatever possible to save water, and the authorities…

UoN RDA reach their minimum goal on Jumpstart!
On our way back from Scropton yard, we learn terrific news! The University of Nottingham RDA group have reached their minimum target amount on Jumpstart, the university’s first crowdfunding platform. This means that they will be granted all the money they have raised at the end of the campaign, and this is exciting! As a Jumpstart Co-ordinator, I feel particularly proud of them, because their project is actually our first-ever one! I would like to thank everyone who donated or spread the word. Let’s give the team a final push to their main target, 1,000 British pounds, of which they have secured 30%. Let’s get as many cute volunteers as possible to RDA…
