The two world wars keep being of interest to flm directors and their audiences. All those heroic actions, enriched with more heroism and quite many effects and colours are always exciting. But few of them describe the real horror and suffering, the real impact of the wars on people’s life. And, especially, the story of the cavalry horses, whose riders had to face the first products of the defence manufacturers. Really, how many of us have imagined ourselves in the saddle with bullets whistling by our heads, bombs exploding around us and a four-legged comrade scared to death underneath us?

I found this documentary on YouTube and wanted to share it with you. It describes quite dramatically what horses meant to the British army and how they contributed to the war and reconstruction effort of Britain and its allies. The horror they experienced, the bonds they built with the soldiers, their sacrifices, their critical battles and their advantages over the first war machines at critical times. And, of course, the contribution of General Seely and his Warrior.

Finally, now I know what “Seely Road” in Nottingham means.
