While battling with my last readings and deadlines, our ladies from the University of Nottingham Equestrian were putting hard work to promote the inclusive sessions for disabled students that they have been organising his year -making the disabled students happy and grateful. The article, featuring on two British magazines on activities for the disabled PosAbility and ONTRACK has the title &#8220;Inclusive Riding Sessions: Engaging Mind and Body&#8221;, highlights the positive impact of our equine therapy sessions on students&#8217; long-term physical and mental conditions in higher education. And if you like my face, you&#8217;ll see it on one of the featured pictures -haha. But even if you don&#8217;t like my face my face, I still encourage you to read the article! So yes, having accepted the fact that I have a disability and receive this kind of help, I&#8217;d like to thank the people who made Riding Inclusive Sessions happen and let them know for once more that I feel proud to attend them. The University of Nottingham RDA group have reached their minimum target amount on Jumpstart, the university&#8217;s first crowdfunding platform. This means that they will be granted all the money they have raised at the end of the campaign, and this is exciting! As a Jumpstart Co-ordinator, I feel particularly proud of them, because their project is actually our first-ever one! I would like to thank everyone who donated or spread the word. It is my honor to have been chosen to coordinate Jumpstart, the first platform that raises awareness about the student-run projects of the University of Nottingham, which are at the core of our University&#8217;s engagement in the local communities in all three countries where UoN has campuses (United Kingdom, Malaysia, China). It was to my excitement to be informed that our first-ever campaign belongs to the University&#8217;s RDA group, of which I am a member! Our group is part of the University of Nottingham Equestrian Club and is amongst the most active volunteering groups of the University at the moment. RDA stands for Riding for the Disabled Association, a British charity associated with a big number of yards. Five days a week we volunteer with RDA yards across Nottinghamshire, namely Dukeries, Scorpton and Lings Lane, providing assistance with stable management and lessons. We have invested thousands of hours already in this activity and we are bonded with the staff, riders and horses. Amongst us are students with disabilities who don&#8217;t want their health issues to be an obstacle to their engagement in the society and they too want to contribute; this is a way of healing for them as well, no matter the extent to which they realise it. More and more students join us on this journey, which is a proof that our effort is visible and appreciated. But things are not always very easy, due to the long distance we have to drive to reach the yards. The road trips last between 30 and 45 minutes by car, hence our transportation costs are quite high. With our funding significantly reduced by the University, we cannot send as many volunteers as we would like to the yards that need them. As a result, many students get disappointed with the small number of slots available for this valuable work. We would like to increase these slots significantly, enabling the yards to do more for the people with disabilities who receive their help. And, of course, this way more young people will realise the ability of a horse to heal a human. With Jumpstart, we hope to receive the funding we need for our transportation to the yards. We aim to raise 1,000 pounds to keep us going and until now we have reached 27% of our target. Through Jumpstart, people can sponsor or promote our project on social media, so one doesn&#8217;t need to actually donate money, although we would love everyone to. 					<description><![CDATA[Most students hate autumn. But I love this season. So many beginnings; new people, new modules, new notebooks, and for the equestrian society of the University of Nottingham, a new year of subsidized lessons in Trent Valley! The committee say that this year the members are over 500, the highest number ever, and of course all those people want to learn how to ride and volunteer for RDA yards! So, imagine, what it takes for a member to secure a lesson, and how hard it is for the committee members to organize everything! So here we go, it was my turn to show up in Trent Valley for my first lesson of the season. I signed up for the pre-novice level and I was happy to know that I&#8217;ve gone one step higher! The day began as a disaster, me being late both at the meeting point and the lesson, but it turned out it was for the best! Everyone had mounted except for me, and the good thing is, that my old friend Smartie with the cute bridle was available, as the last choice! Smartie is an active horse, but he has his own attitude, which many people hate! He&#8217;s a naughty, unpredictable horse, that loves making riders fly! He also bites sometimes, and his favorite target is the butt of the horse at his front! And these reasons exactly make me love Smartie so much! After sorting myself out, the lesson began. The horses had already warmed up thanks to the beginners&#8217; lesson that had just finished, and this was good for an active horse like Smartie. All horses were lazy, but Smartie was really energetic and knew his job. It was his day! Today&#8217;s lesson included practicing some things that I hadn&#8217;t practiced enough in the past; jumping (oh, yeah!) and the sitting trot. I managed to jump twice or three times on Smartie (without flying towards the exit of the school), and realised how hard the sitting trot can be. My bottom still hurts! Here I have to stress again how intelligent horses can be. Smartie was getting a lot of pats, of course, since he was brilliant. While we were just standing still next to the mirror, waiting for our turn for the jump, I told him &#8220;look in the mirror Smartie, how beautiful you are!&#8221; Smartie glanced at the mirror, and got a bit melancholic. Then he turned his head and stared at me until we had to walk forward. I became a bit melancholic too. Imagine having all this stuff on your mouth and face, being pulled, and kicked, and whipped and forced to run and jump around with a bossy 65kg, two-legged creature on your back! After a lovely and fun lesson, we unmounted (I was the last one as always, in case that you wonder), sorted out the horses, then ourselves, and then back to our accommodation. It was so nice! 					<description><![CDATA[The equestrian club of the Sutton Bonington campus of the University of Nottingham has been involved in the Mars (the brand, not the planet!) Milk Play Fund, in order to fund its horseball activities and represent the university in British national university championships. The club is in urgent need of equipment and money to fund their lessons and horse training and have entered the scheme for a small grant. One thousand pounds might not sound enough for the size of their project, but &#8220;every little helps&#8221;, as the motto of a British supermarket chain says. Sutton Bonington is an isolated campus hosting a number of agronomic, veterinarian and food science schools. Students&#8217; access to the university&#8217;s main campus or organised equestrian clubs is rather difficult and they need to build their own training facilities and pay for their instructors and the schooling of their horses, for their right to compete with minimum facility and technical obstacles, like all other youths of their age. The Milk Play Fund is a scheme offered by Mars Incorporated to fund individuals, teams and clubs practicing any sport. A grant of 1,000 British pounds is offered every month and one of 300 pounds every week to the entries that get the most votes. These young people might not need this grant, if they didn&#8217;t have to pay 9,000 British pounds per year in tuition fees, plus rent and other living costs. 					<description><![CDATA[Spring is here and The University of Nottingham community know exactly what that means; lively colors everywhere! The massive variety of flora on the University Park Campus has woken up to welcome the warmer days! Colourful flowers, all-green trees, everything looks different under the spring British sun (yes, I love this seldom sunshine)! Clear paths leading to fountains and pieces of art, trees devoted to important people, students&#8217; halls and research centres showing themselves through all these leaves! On the main campus there is a plethora of gardens. In them stand benches and tables, where students discuss, eat or study. With wi-fi everywhere, excellent lending services and thousands of digitized books, who needs the library when nature creates such wonders? So, on my way to the Sports Centre of the university, where I would meet our lovely driver who would take me and some others to Trent Valley, I took many, many pictures with my smartphone.
