How many calories we burn at the barn!
More workouts, improved fitness and weight loss are probably the most popular new-year resolutions. So, it’s time for you to be proud, dear equestrians! Because, yes, you have all that with no extra effort! Yannis told me once that one hour of riding in walk equals eight hours of walking on foot, so, you can see the miracles equestrianism does! Personally I love the fact that horse-riding is one of the sports that tone and strengthen your muscles, instead of turning you into a protein-obsessed monster! In any case, if you want to have a really good workout, get yourself busy in a barn! Tonight I watched a fun video…

Flash – The 1997 movie
I watched recently the Disney movie “Flash”, released in 1997. It is the moving story of a child which, after getting his dream horse, has to face alone a series of family hardships, such as his grandmother’s death and confiscation of his home soon after that . The boy decides to sell his horse to make ends meet and live in the stables of the wealthy businessman who bought him. The real action begins when the boy saves his horse from being shot and begins a long journey on horseback to meet his father in New York city. A nice movie for the whole family focusing on story rather than…

Literature passages: The Black Beauty
Hi! Yesterday I found it a great idea to reward myself after a harsh semester -or, almost “after”, as I have to write one more essay plus my dissertation proposal- and read some classic equine literature. When I search for classic fiction, I check the Amazon Kindle store, where such books are often offered free of charge and you can read them on your portable device in any place you fancy. And here we go, I picked “Black Beauty”, downloaded it for free and read it in one night! Though it was afternoon when I started and morning when I finished. But well, it’s just me… I want to share…

Equine Therapy-Battling with schizophrenia: Morgan’s inspiring video
Good evening to all my sweet readers! You who have followed this blog for a little longer, might remember an article about Morgan, a lovely girl from Ohio suffering from schizophrenia. You might want to know that Morgan is doing great, and also that the family altogether are doing great! Morgan is a little heroine, while her parents are real warriors, and the most impressive thing is that they fight together! I have been in touch with them and I am very glad to know that these strong people are doing awesome! Recently they sent me an e-mail with this very touching video: Finishing this post, I would like to send a plea…

What I would gift my horse for Christmas -if I had one
Here I am, break at work (well, I blog, work and study altogether -and it feels terrible only when I have to miss equestrian socials and lessons!). My supervisor has been playing Christmassy music to cheer us up, having showed us 4 boxes of chocolate, whose contents are all supposed to end up in our stomachs (and I am the person closest to these boxes, so imagine -_- ). So, with all these cheers and treats, I began to think about the -horsey- gift I would like to give myself! A new pair of breeches and a shirt are in myself’s wishlist. This is how I began to search on the…

The Aravani
The Aravani is a Greek native horse, which has been used for centuries by the Greek people all over the Greek space. Origin In 2000 B.C., the Dorians migrated to Greece with their own equines from the steppes. Upon their passing through the area of Thessalia, they bred those equines with the local horses, which they took with them. This is how the ancestors of the Aravani species were born. Later in time, the Aravani horses were mixed with Persian, Arabian, Turkish and Roman breeds. Especially the Arabic characteristics are dominant in the genetic material of this breed. Uses Before the 1960, when the mechanization of agriculture began in…
