Happy New Year! (even if I’m late)
Hi, horsey world! I’d like to wish everyone happy new year, with loads of horsey activities and… health! And I’m saying health, because I’ve spent the holidays so far sleeping, coughing, blowing my nose and getting angry about it all. So, when people say to me “Happy New Year” and the traditional wish “next year as well” -which goes with everything- I reply with the other traditional, going-with-everything wish “and next year with health”, in its literal form. I wish myself -and everyone who has been ill these holidays- to be healthy next Christmas holidays, including New Year”s Day!

On Channel 4 News with UoN Equestrian
I have been saving this post for the time that the footage was out. So, last May, we were asked to participate in a short film on mental health on campus. The film was broadcasted on Channel 4 News on 11 October for the No Go Britain part of the programme. Those who decided to participate, would get a lesson at Scropton Riding & Driving Centre and then sit down to have a nice conversation about the issues they face on campus because of their mental disorders and how equine therapy helps them. Not a good lesson for me, by the way, since I had forgotten that 20 Celsius degrees in Nottingham…

My schooling whip is a flight threat!
Yep, that’s right, this is what security workers at Gatwick airport thought about my nice, red dressage whip, which weighs about 300 gr. But let’s take the story from the beginning. I set off from Nottingham to Gatwick at 13:00 GMT to fly home. After saying bye to everyone, my only thought was the five hours on the coach, four-hour flight, and two-hour road trip I had ahead of me. I arrived at the airport quite early (two hours or so before the flight) and went to the luggage drop-off, carrying my 60 cm. schooling whip and planning initially to take it to the cabin with me, as I had…

A kids birthday party!
Being a regular member of EGVUS means that you have made a whole bunch of juvenile friends, who come to the yard for lessons and volunteering. You see, in the minds of the locals, equestrian is an activity for kids and not even a sport. It is weird and shameful for a woman in her thirties to practice equestrian in any way -at least this is how an average person will see it over here. There are, of course other adult riders in the club, but the problem is, they are few and live quite far and only visit EGVUS for their lessons. So, I haven’t met any of…

Back home!
Hello from Crete! It’s been twenty days since I returned to the homeland -and two months since the last time I blogged, but that’s another issue. Since I arrived I’ve been mega-busy, and today it as the fourth time I got out of the house. One of my exoduses was a day at EGVUS, of course. How could I resist going to the yard which is just a 2 min drive from my house! And so I ended up spending there my first Sunday home! So there we go, at 9 am I was ready to be driven to the yard, in my riding breeches and everything, planning to just…

My last Inclusive Riding Session at Scropton
Hello! So, I have entered the last semester of my course, which means it’s MA Dissertation time! Many things end with the end of the spring semester at university and one of them was the equine therapy sessions organized by our Equestrian society. I’d like to share it with you not only because it’s the last one, but also it’s quite episodic! So, here we go, my phone screen read “9 June 2016, 09:00”. We set off to Scropton stables with our bus driver Mr. Paul and reached the stables soon enough for our usual biscuit splash. It was such fun to compare the time you’ve spent at Cripps Health…
