Natural hoofcare workshop in Crete
Hello again! Andrea-Patrizia Wiener-Angelakis invites us to her farm “With Horses Here and Now”, where she will deliver a two-day seminar on looking after the equine foot. The course will take place between from 14 to 15 October 2017 and here follows the announcement: “Every horse comes into this world healthy and barefoot with the potential to follow the herd from day one into rocky trails and harsh grounds for many, many miles. So why is that your horse has to wear metal shoes? Usually, we put shoes on our horses when they become of age to be ridden or to start working. This happens out of habit or out…

Back on Canada’s back
The first time I rode Canada he bucked me off and I got some injuries. After getting better, Yannis discouraged me from riding him again before he could see that I was able to control him. My fall still is the worst that he has ever seen in his 27-year long career in equestrian and he wants to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. Consequently, I spent some weeks riding other horses and the lessons with them paid off. So, last week I went to EGVUS for my lesson, chat and coffee and Yannis told me that I would ride Canada and see what happens, with Ali, the little…

Event: Horsemanship experiential workshop “You Can Do That Too” in Crete
Who is up for learning in Crete this summer? There is a notable opportunity for those of you who want to spend some of their summertime developing their horsemanship skills. The farm “With Horses Here and Now” is hosting this summer the natural-horsemanship instructor from Australia Stavros Steve Vergis. The concept of the seminar Most of the problems that we face with equines derive from the fact that they don’t trust us, they don’t respect us or are afraid of us. To build an appropriate rapport with our horse, first of all we should follow some groundwork programme and once we have done that, follow our riding programme. We should…

Pretty things that stamp your life
Everyone has a birthplace and a place they spent their childhood in. Even if we weren’t that lucky in our early years, there were still pleasant little moments that we recall now and then. I believe that Crete is an ideal place for one to grow up. Growing up in Crete goes together with unforgettable memories of endless swimming, excursions in the mountains, holidays in the plethora of villages that exist on the island, exploration of everything that can be explored, feasting in picturesque places, flirting on the beach and so much more. The beauty of the images that stain your mind forever cannot be described with words; images that…

Equestrian frustration!
In the past year, most things in my life have gone terribly wrong. Equestrian is one of them and the fact that I have had to switch riding cultures (again) has made it all feel worse in my mind. I started riding in Crete, then carried on in Nottingham, then back in Crete -as a novice. When it comes to riding, there’s not much difference between Britain and Greece. English riding is preferred to Western in most areas of the country, and people keep riding English on a Western saddle. The difference lies mostly in the way we train and handle horses over here. In most cases, we look into…

Beautiful music for dressage-to-music tests based on Harry Potter
The show season has begun and the web is full of resources, ideas and… dressage music! And so, I found on YouTube two lovely videos with dressage music from the Harry Potter theme. Apart from the beautiful music, these videos also provide suggestions for your test. The authors claim that they have 15 years of experience in British dressage and all their dressage music is recorded in a professional studio. Below are the videos. What do you think of the programmes they suggest? If Harry Potter inspires you, why not buying “The Compete Harry Potter Film Music Collection”, played by The Prague Philarmonic Orchestra?
